Getting a good degree

A good degree does not guarantee you a job but it will improve your chances of getting through the first stages of any selection processes. Employers value a good degree result because of what it says about your attitude and commitment just as much as for the subject knowledge and intellectual ability it demonstrates.

Although you need to show employers more than just your academic achievements, a first or an upper second class degree will also count because it demonstrates that you are someone who:

  • is motivated to work hard
  • is self-disciplined and committed
  • can manage your workload and meet deadlines
  • can organise yourself and deal with pressure

Anything that helps make you stand out from other people is absolutely vital and you really need to think about that when you’re studying.
