Problem-solving skills

Employers expect graduates in particular to be good at analysing problems and finding solutions. A key part of this skill is adopting a positive attitude to challenge and the determination to overcome obstacles.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) definition of problem-solving includes:

  • analysing facts and situations
  • applying creative thinking to develop appropriate solutions

See the Evidencing problem-solving skills guide for help with where you can find examples to demonstrate these areas.
