Create a job

For some of you, work after university may mean creating your own job through entrepreneurship or self-employment. In this case you also need to prepare for the practicalities and challenges of working for yourself.

If you are entrepreneurial by nature and have a marketable idea, you may have already decided to set up your own business. In some sectors, such as creative and performing arts, you may have no choice but to work freelance. Or you may be one of many people, for example in the IT sector, who work as freelancers or on contract from choice.

The employability skills and qualities you need to work for an organisation are just as important in working for yourself, so you still need to build up relevant experience while studying as described in Gaining experience.

Find out more about the specifics of self-employment and starting up your own business from the videos and guides in this section.
